When I booted my HP Pavilion DV4 this afternoon, the display was showing very weird colors, very red, and the images were very blurry. I rebooted a couple of times and that didn't help. Left it just set there while I was researching this on my smartphone and then after about 15 or 20 minutes it cleared up and is normal. What could be causing this? Is the display going out or is the graphics card? Do I need to start shopping for a new laptop? Any light you can shed on this would be greatly appreciated. I need my computer and would like to know what the chances are of it going out completely or what I can do to fix it. Thank you for your help! Oh, yea, I am running Windows 7

Was the laptop in any extreme temperatures or temperature change? Was this on initial boot, or were you running programs?

It had been hibernating and it was not running anything. It wasn't hot when I picked it up. It wasn't a full bootup as it had been hibernating but I did a restart and a full shut down start up that didn't help. It didn't clear up until it had been running for 15 or 20 minutes.

You may have a circuit board that is going bad. It could have been a fluke, but keep an eye on it. Next time it happens - if you can plug an external monitor it, it will determine if it is the GPU or the display panel that is messing up.
