I'm building my first rig in December but can't quite find the right keyboard and mouse, so I came here for some guidance. (This is my first post, so if I screwed something up, message me)

I want a mechanical, preferably with red back light and some macros, as for the mouse, I'm not too sure what's out there so I'm open to whatever. I wanna spend about $150ish altogether

keyboards look for full Nkroll over as a must without it you dont get true antighosting on all key combos.
do you live alone? game in a separate room? if yes to both then buy a bag of O rings to go under your keys.
http://www.keyboardco.com/index.asp have a look here it will help you decide on what your needs are.

mouse anything optical will have zero acceleration issues. and now you can get 3600+dpi optical its well worth looking at as a more accurate alternative to a lot of currently overpriced over engineered lazer mice.

brands to look at? logitech, roccat, corsair, zowie
brands to stay clear of, razer, cyborg (both over priced or badly made)

yes mate i havent had a razer product that lasted more than 18 months. im not heavy handed either and i look after my kit.
but i had a razer keyboard fail 4 days after purchase its replacement lasted about 5 months, full refund given on second return.
razer lachesis middle mouse button died for no apparent reason after 6 months. second 1 lasted 8 months turns out its a common fault for that chassis.

a few mates bought the death adder and had the same issue and no 1 i know who bought 1 3+ years ago still has a working 1
yet i know plenty of guys who bought say a GX9 5+years ago who still have em and still love em...

i gotta admit razer have good marketing and they sell a lot of stuff because of it. especially to younger guys, but that doesnt mean its good. some of it looks very pretty on the desk but look a bit closer and you see the flaws.
there gaming matrix for instance. it supposedly speeds up the reaction to the wasd key nest. in reality it s a gimmick.
as is there up to 10 key roll over. why not full N-k roll.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rollover_(key) read the full page
without full nk roll over you cant have effective anti ghosting.

but where razer really do take the cake is when it comes to gimmick marketing.
take keyboard polling... razer keyboard polls at 1000ms BLAZEND across the box? WOW! really...

they have litrally slowed down the keyboard and called it a feature.
when keyboards work on interrupt and you press a key. its near instantaneous, and cycling as fast as the cpu.
say you have a 4ghz cpu your keyboard would react to a key press in about 3 cycles of the cpu which is about 4 times faster than a keyboard polling at 1000ms. (in reality it doesn't really matter as there both faster than we can react but still.)
they actually slowed the keyboard response down and called it a feature...

pure marketing like i said. its all about there brand not there products.
