Hello All,

After doing some research, I find myself in a pickle...
In a nutshell I am having problems with the chip-set driver, and USB 3.0 connection stability. I am not having any problems with IRSTe or RAID arrays.

Running 8.1 pro, Asus p9x79ws (latest bios), i7 3930k.

I am having problems with USB 3.0, as well as chip-set drivers. After doing some research, i found that some people may have problems with RAID, but i am running 2 raid arrays just fine with appropriate performance.

Windows message center tells me that i don't have my chip-set driver installed, so I get the latest one from either the ASUS website or Intel site. When trying to install, i get "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software. Setup will exit"

Same message happens when I try to install Intel USB 3.0 extensible host control drive, which is what a lot of people are saying you need to fix the "external hdd keep disconnecting and reconnecting".

I have a 2.5" USB 3.0 external hdd that will disconnect and reconnect every 10 seconds or so, which makes copying file a PITA. It is not the drive because I just recently bought the ASUS UX303LN, and everything works just fine.

Also, under device manager there are no warning or issues...

Would this all be a windows 8.1 issue or a hardware issue?

Thanks for the help.

I will try that, one other thing I guess I should bring up.... this board is brand new (RMA'd old one because DIMM slot failed), and the OS is a fresh build. The chip-set drivers would not install after fresh build using fresh raid arrays and disks. Would it make any difference from 8.1 pro to 8.1 pro update 1?

Was using Win7 pro before and everything worked fine.

Chipset driver https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=20775
RST driver for raid https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=22194

If you install the RST, you need at least two HDD, otherwise you will get the error message like "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software. Setup will exit". So do you talk about this ( RST driver or chipset)?

I had the win8.1 in the HTPC, sometime I will got BSOD, I don't know what going wrong too. I think it maybe the compatibility problem. And the there is not much difference between win8 and win8.1 with update1 except the later update will let your PC run better.

Thank you, those two links are the two drivers I had previously downloaded. The chipset driver fails, but the raid driver works. I am forced to used the raid driver because i keep all important things on a raid 10 array (4x1tb) on the sata 3G ports which also forces me to use the other two sata 6G port in raid also (2x 840 pro raid 0)

For now i am going to pull everything off the raid arrays, reset all the disks, clear the CMOS, and rebuilt from scratch using my old win7 pro copy. I might just set aside win 8 for now....
