Hey, guys. So, i built a new media computer and am trying to set up RAID for the first time. I installed windows 8.1 on an SSD with no drives connected in AHCI mode with the intention to set up the RAID afterwords....boy was i in for trouble. So switching to RAID mode in the bios gave me a bluescreen and i thought "Oh i did this before. Just need to search for what registries to edit to switch." After hours of googleing i saw a LOT of different answers. Im doing this all on a A78M-A motherboard from ASUS with an AMD A10-5800K CPU. I have One SSD with windows installed in AHCI mode, one 300gb HDD that i just have around for server storage and two new 4TB HDD i want in RAID 1 for media storage. I do not want to have to reinstall windows as i have set up a few things already. I have tried setting windows to boot into safe mode and auto change drivers (so i read) but i still bluescreen. I cant find the registry entries to even edit (assuming you can going from AHCI to RAID), and i tried adding legacy hardware in device manager to add the drivers but i cant even get that to work right. I have been at this for hours and am at my wits end. I cant find a good consistent straight answer anywhere. Windows boots perfectly fine in AHCI mode but the created RAID drives show up as two with no letters and i cant assign letters either. If i have to re install with Raid mode on can i still just leave the SSD in by it self, install windows so no boot sectors go places i dont want, then re connect the 3 other drives, build the array and have it all work as i do not want windows on a RAID array. I would prefer to try to avoid reinstalling so ANY help would be awesome. First time messing with RAID and its so aggravating. lol
