hello friends I have a friend who has an i3 2120 3.3GHz (locked for overclocking), and wondered if he makes an upgrade to an i5 3570 would have a high gain fps in games such as BATTLEFIELD 4, ASSASSINS CREED BLACK FLAG 4, CRYSIS 3 , GTA 4 (GTA 5 WHEN LAUNCH !!) with a gtx 770, thank you!

for your setup, the i5 would certainly be beneficial. You will achieve higher FPS also, to be put in short, especially as heavy threads are becoming more intensive as time progresses.

Get GTX 970 4GB VRAM or R9 280 3GB VRAM . i3 2120 is not so bad . Which GPU do you have ?

Yeah, that would be a significant upgrade. It's hard to say how often he's CPU bound, probably still most of the time he'll be GPU limited, but BF4 MP, for example, is notoriously hard on CPUs and that upgrade would likely make a noticeable difference.

Just make sure he updates to the latest BIOS before swapping CPUs, motherboards that launced with Sandy Bridge (2xxx CPUs) weren't compatible with Ivy Bridge (3xxx CPUs) without a BIOS update.

Also, if he has a Z68 or Z77 Mobo, he'll be able to overclock if he gets a "K" processor and an aftermarket heatsink. It'd be worth getting the 3570K even if he doesn't want to get the cooler and OC right away, at least he'll have the option down the track. If it's a non-Z Mobo, just save your money and get the non-K processor.

Get a GTX 970, far better graphics card for the price. I also presume he knows the factors of compatibility also.

Any potential benefit is entirely dependent on the game, as some are more processor intensive than others. Battlefield 4 is a good example where multi-threaded processors improve frame rate, but Black Flag only has minimal gains. I know, as I've run the game on dual and quad core processors.

A game only performs as well as its development. If it was sloppily designed, all the hardware in the world won't make it run well.

Don't get me wrong, an i5 is still a worthwhile upgrade, but I'd definitely go for a GTX 970 if possible. An R9 280X is also a good alternative.
