{ask} Upgrading Windows 8.1 from Windows 7

will there be a perfomance change If I upgrade my windows 7 to windows 8.1 from the option "keep window settings,personal files, and apps" *in other word, without formatting the main windows partition* ?

In a ideal world, you should gain little, due to the improvements of the internals of Win81 over Win7, but am upgrade can result in a performance drop over a backup and clean install.

Can I use my windows 7 backup after a clean install of windows 8.1?

If by backup you mean recovery DVD's or recovery partition, then yes, so long as you don't delete the recovery partition during Win81 install.

If by backup, you mean personal files, then just copying them to an external hdd and then back again.
