Hi. I have the following laptop: http://www.asus.com/in/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/K55VM/specifications/

Been using it for 2 years, and I feel the hard drive lag/slowdown quite a lot since past few months. Whenever something is being copied/installed, the rest of the programs will struggle to work. CPU/GPU Usage are not a problem.

My question: If I buy an SSD, will my laptop support it? For instance, I could be getting the following SSD: http://www.flipkart.com/samsung-840-pro-series-256-gb-ssd-internal-hard-drive-mz-7pd256bw/p/itmdjsgavnypzzsy?pid=IHDDJSG9FZ598NF8&otracker=from-search&srno=t_15&query=ssd&ref=268ded3c-67fa-4ae5-ab04-ca28a6dce60d

I'm not sure if my laptop will support the 2.5" SSD. If it helps, I checked the Device Manager and saw that my current HDD is the following: ST1000lm024.

Also, once I remove the old HDD, can I use it as an external HDD (considering its 1 TB size)?

Thanks for reading and any help will be appreciated.

Hey HearseRider. You should have no problem with an SSD. There are even hard drive HDD/SSD caddy adapters so that you could get a 2nd HDD or SSD.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the response Boogieman, could you explain that 'caddy adapters' part a bit? I'm not that well versed technically.

No problem. The caddy adapters are used when you want to have another HDD or SSD, because most laptops come with only one slot for an HDD. You remove your CD/DVD drive and replace it with a caddy adapter, which has a slot and connection for another HDD/SSD. And this way you have two drives instead of one.
