Skyrim is probably the best role playing game released in that time.
Team Fortress 2 is good mult-player first person shooter. It is free and there are always people playing online.
Far Cry 3 was a very good single player first person shooter.
Civilisation V was a big strategy game release.
For smaller games try Limbo, Bastion, Sanctum 2, Orcs Must Die 2. Portal 2.
