Just swap out the board for a Z97 instead of Z87. The rest is perfect.

You can not really save much without sacrificing performance and quality.

You are in good shape. I would swap out that ZOTAC GPU, but that is only because I don't care for them. Other than that you have a very solid build! Add an SSD if you can (Samsung 840 EVO or Crucial MX100).

My only suggestion might be to go with the 4690k and a 9 series motherboard so you can upgrade to Broadwell later on if you wanted. Besides that, looks good! The 970 is such a beast card.
