Hey Everyone -

I bought a EVGA GTX 780 (03G-P4-2784-KR), for use on my new pc build. I am experiencing very low FPS in game on far cry 3. 20-30fps with just high settings. From what I am reading online, based on my configuration I should be getting much better performance. I'm wondering if I got a faulty GPU, as I originally had a evga 750ti superclocked and it seemed to run better.

Turn off V-sync

The settings that hit performance hardest in FarCry3 is the water(I use medium), and Anti-alising. Try turning off AA if you have it enabled, and try turning the water to medium. Also change the coverage option to standard instead of advanced. See if it helps and report back. You may be able to go to ultra/very high on everything else after making these changes.

Alright, I do know that Vsync is off, and I think AA is set at 4x right now. I will turn that off and lower the water setting to medium and see what happens...

AA is a killer in FC3: 4 x AA used in these benches http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/far-cry-3-performan...

Something seems wrong.

On my old 7970 OC I'd hit at least 45 with everything on ultra. That includes AA x4.

EDITED: I changed the AA from x2 to x4.
I took benchmarks prior to upgrading my system.

Agreed, It can't just be in the game settings. I'm thinking it's with the hardware. I may have a cable in the wrong place? or the power supply is not feeding the 780 enough power? I'd like to try and rule out everything before I conlcude that I may have a faulty card on my hands

Check NVIDIA control panel.

Maybe you turned on some AA settings in the driver or another setting that there... These settings can override the ingame settings you want.

According to the benches I posted he is right around where I would expect him to be at 4x AA. Even the xfire and SLI configurations are around the 30-40fps mark.

Yes, in the benches you posted that is correct...

I'm basing mine of of my own system and also you can view some other benchmarks here:
http://www.techspot.com/review/675-nvidia-geforce-gtx-7...

Specifically I was hitting 45fps with 4x MSAA and 60fps with 2x MSAA

NOTE: This 45FPS would drop to around 30 at certain high view points. But normal play was around 45fps with 4x MSAA.

I took benchmarks right before and after upgrading my GPU.

7970 OC @ 1175/1550 = 45fps ultra/x4, 60fps ultra/x2
GTX 970 OC @ +200 core + 250 mem = 90fps ultra x4, no drops in the same area as with the 970.

quick update for everyone. I updated my bios, and re-installed my gpu driver. also verified the game cache on steam. fired up the game and voila! 80fps on ultra settings! lesson learned...never overlook updates!
