Wondering if i could stress test my newly built computer safely build went very smooth, first time build,
If your wondering why im using certain parts its a lower budget design and light gaming build. Also i left room to buy a newer better grapics card in the future and use the 750gtx as well to run multiple monitors. Any input? Good? Bad? Im very satisfied. Oh running win 8

reason for going single channel vs a faster dual channel option?

looks good, would SUGGEST xferring the os over to a SSD, use the wd as data storage down the road (get one with data migration tools to expedite things. Never used a xeon as a gaming proc, but you have what seems like a nice first build here.

Budget you say? Your build is over 800$ and you bought a XEON!
I would buy a i5 for that price and get a R7 265, but too bad you already build it.

Lol. There's nothing wrong with getting a Xeon CPU. It's funny you should mention an i5 because as it happens I read some of your posts from another thread. If my memory serves me right the winning choice from that thread was also a i7/Xeon. Despite, for some unknown reason, you advocating an i5 for an obviously i7/Xeon suitable machine. I would go with a locked i7 or Xeon any day over a locked i5; simple as that.

@OP : It looks good. I'm a little curious as to why you went for a Z75 motherboard, and single channel memory (1 stick of 8GB, rather than 2 sticks of 4GB). Not that there's anything wrong with that, the machine will run just fine. The single channel memory might knock you down a notch or two on memory performance but otherwise it should be fine.

Yes but for gaming a core i5 is perfect and the i7 series wont give you much more FPS

Single channel 8gb so i can upgrade to 16 in not so distant future than 32 in years and years to come if needed

Nothing's wrong with it; I was merely curious.

The build isn't bad, but you're using old parts on a dead socket. there will be no upgrade path to the newer CPUs which will potentially be better than the CPU you bought while being cheaper.

How far down the line do you think ill need a new cpu?

Well, I would say in a few years, but that's not always the case, as I have an old Pentium 4 521 CPU and it's running perfectly fine right now.

Yes. It is probably a good idea to stress test.

Memtest for a few hours.
Prime95 for a few hours.
Furmark for a few hours.

You won't need a CPU for a long time. They make it sound like you're dead in water using an outdated socket, but that's far from the truth. That Xeon 1230 V2 will be a great CPU for several years to come.
