First of all i'd like to apologize if this question has been asked lately. Ive seen lots of older threads asking the same thing but cant find anything recent. Ive built dozens of PCs in the past 20 years but have never built a multi-monitor setup.

My brother in law was using a Dell T3500 with two Nvs 420s when all of a sudden they just stopped working. Tried them in another PC and they wont even boot up. He wants me to build him a new PC that would be good for him and not overkill like the T3500 was. He uses the PC strictly for stock trading.

Im looking for the least expensive way to to connect 6 monitors to a PC and any suggestions anyone might have as to the rest of the parts (proc., mobo, ram, video card, etc). Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated as he wants this thing built within a week.

what monitors were you looking at? 1080p? I would say something like this wouldnt be a bad idea rather than two cards but they are pricey http://www.amazon.com/VisionTek-Products-Eyefinity-Graphic-900548/dp/B0085O90SQ

eyfinity 6

2 of these should do the job as well they need 6 pin pcie power connectors though so a decent powersupply is reccomended

Thanks for the quick replies! Now how would I go about connecting these video cards to six monitors? Like I said earlier, ive only dealt with PCs with one display so im completely ignorant when it comes to multi display PCs. I know displayports can be split off into multiple monitors as long as I use active adapters but how would I do it with DVI outputs?

you would just have connect the dvi outs to the monitors and use the hdmi for one of the monitors or even use an hdmi to dvi cable if there isnt hdmi on the monitors.

they should all connect just fine since this 740 supports 3 monitors.

make sure if you dont get this card that it supports 3 monitors, there are some variants like the 740 that will only support 2 at a time

So would the 730 work just as good as the 740 in my setup just for day trading? Would I have any problems if I went with Intel instead of AMD? Im looking at the Intel Core i5-4460 Haswell Quad-Core 3.2GHz and the GIGABYTE GA-Z97X motherboard or is this overkill for my needs?

Could someone who has experience using a newer i5 tell me whether its overkill for a stock trading computer with 6 monitors and two GT 740s? Or would it be smarter to go with and i3 and two GT 730s? Im about to pull the trigger on this setup and would like some final advice from those that are more experienced. Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide.
