Hi!
I have a daily job, but I work as a 3D artist (freelance) as my side job. I work a lot with 3Ds Max + Vray, Photoshop, and ocassionally AfterEffects.

But, besides that I'm gamer as well and like to play games like DayZ, Eve Online, Dota 2 etc.

I need something what would be fairly good for the next 4-5 years, while perhaps upgrading RAM and a second GPU

What I need is a good balance between rendering power and gaming. I live in Croatia, so my budget is 15.000 croatian kunas (hrk) - which is roughly $2500 converted to usd.

Here's the build (With local prices in $USD) - please take a look at it and suggest what you think would work better within the budget:

MBO: Gigabyte GA-X99-UD4, Intel® Socket 2011-v3 250$
CPU: i7-5820K 525$
VGA: ASUS STRIX-GTX970-DC2OC-4GD5 555$
RAM:16 GB, G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 series, DDR4 2400 MHz, kit 4x4GB 395$
PSU: Corsair 750W, CS750M Modular PSU 135$
SSD: Intel 120GB SSD 530, 2.5", SATA III-600, R/W:540/480MB/s 107$
HDD: Seagate 2TB, Barracuda 7200 101$
Monitor: DELL E2414H 24", 1920x1080, LED, 5ms, 1000:1 206$
Case: SILVERSTONE Redline RL04B Midi Tower, 1x ATX, 7 slots 62$
Plus around 100$ for CPU water cooling

Mouse, keyboard and optical drive I already have.

This is $2436 in total. I'm not sure about the price differences between US/UK and Croatia. It's likely more expensive here, altough what's cheaper there is of course cheaper here as well.

Thank you!

I think you are estimating a bit high on the exchange rate(s). How does the build below translate to your local shops? It includes water cooling and a 2560x1444 display...

GPU - The ASUS is fine, however the EVGA below has a factory overclock (slightly faster)
PSU - No Corsair. Especially the CS / CX / Builder lines. They have lower quality components. Stick with XFX or Seasonic. If you can't find them in your area check out Antec or the EVGA Supernova lineup.
SSD - Eh... A bit expensive. Look toward the Samsung 840 EVO or Crucial MX100. As you can see below (here in the US), the 256GB Crucial is about the same cost as the 120GB Intel.
MONITOR - With your "large" budget look toward a large resolution monitor, or a dual setup...

I have double checked and yeah - i converted prices correctly. :(

135$ cheaper 5820k on Amazon, wow. 525$ is really the cheapest one over here. We're getting robbed I guess.

Your build is so much better than mine, thank you for it! I will try to buy components outside of the Croatia.

Now when I think of it - as Croatia is in EU right now, and has the taxation agreement with the UK, do you by a chance know any UK retail shop which would likely ship components over here from the UK? I would be able to refund UK taxes after paying Croatian ones. I think that even with the shipping I would be able to save money.

Sorry, but I do not. Not familiar with many UK shops... Even if you were to save a bit and go that route, warranty claims might be a pain (if you were to have one).

Hey no problems! Thank you for the build suggestions, greatly appreciated!

I did a research and apparently, since Croatia is now in the EU, there are no additional tax fees, other than which were already paid in other EU countries where hardware was bought.

I will head to Slovenia myself, it's about 100 miles driving from here to their capital. Prices are comparable to what you've listed. Only what could be a bit of a hassle is having to head back there if warranty claims are needed.

Since this would leave me with 200$ extra (including fuel for there and back) - what would you suggest me to invest it in? Is 5930k worth, or perhaps more powerfull GPU, or 16GB more RAM?

Thanks

I'm bumping this as I'm most likely going to buy the rig tomorrow. I have an 200$ extra (300$ if I stretch my budget)

Please look at the updated components for my build, which sadams04 has posted (thanks once again). I'm undecisive if I should go for 5930k, perhaps getting better GPU (If there is one for 200-300$ more than the gtx970), or if I should take 32GB DDR4 instead of 16 gb.

I will do a lot of rendering, but also a lot of gaming.

Thanks

If you really want to spend it all...

CPU - Not worth the upgrade. The net gain of 200MHz won't be noticed. Both of these processors will overclock the same.
MEM - Yep. Go for it here! Grab a 4x8GB kit.
GPU - The GTX 970 is a beast, and the extra cost of the 980 doesn't justify the minimal 10% performance increase. Save this money and add a second GTX 970 in SLI down the road if you want more graphics muscle.
CASE - This is where you could easily eat up the rest of your budget. Browse around for something that catches your eye... Check out the NZXT Phantom lines or the Corsair 400 or 500 series.

Thank you guys! I've just booted the machine for the 1st time. (Just finished os installation, after I've put the components together.) The build is exactly the same as sadams04 suggested initally: 5820k, 16gb ddr4, factory overclocked 970gtx. I even took the case he suggested as it looks beautiful! And, the system has an upgrade path for the future, which is great!

I decided to keep the extra 200$ for something else. Anyways - It's a brilliant workstation, and very capable of gaming. Love it! Thanks a lot guys, love the help from tom's hardware!

Very nice! If you don't mind, let us know where you settled in for an overclock (if you got that far) and the temps you are seeing under full load. I have yet to see much published for temps on an overclocked i7-5820k with an H110 water cooling setup.
