Hello! I have an old ze4900 that currently is not working (possibly just a bad battery). I'd like to upgrade it so that I can use it for games like The Sims 4. Thing is I have never upgraded anything before and don't know much about it. I'm looking for some guidance. My biggest concerns are:

1)costing more than a basic computer that I could purchase new
2)upgrading parts that are too much power/useless while others are not powerful enough (a mismatch of compatible parts as far as power goes)
3)should I use the laptop or use just its parts to create a new computer (with cost in mind)

Thanks!

For laptops, it's usually easier to replace it than upgrade it. Because laptops are not as standardized as desktops, you cannot just slap a new motherboard and processor into it. The CPU may be able to be upgraded within the same line, but some laptops have it soldered onto the motherboard. RAM can be upgraded, but can get very expensive for older sticks. Hard drives can be replaced. Graphics chips are usually soldered onto the motherboards and are not upgradeable, but some laptops (usually expensive ones) have it on a separate daughterboard.
