I've been running Monsoon 7/16 compression fittings with 7/16 X 5/8 tubing for the past year with no problems, but I'm looking for a change. In doing research, I see a lot of people running tubing & barbs with no compression rings or hose clamp. Is that feasible method or just a photo opportunity, or is it just asking for leaks? An example would be 7/16 tube with 1/2 barbs or 3/8 tube with 7/16 barbs.
Thanks

I always used hose clamps. It's a cheap and easy insurance policy against leaks.
Doesn't look the best, but my system had a good pump and a big reservoir. That means higher pressure on fittings.

Good hose clamps without an internal gear/worm will provide a more even pressure to fittings and less damage to hoses.

If you dont want to buy clamps you can use a couple of cable ties but they look pretty bad. You can get cool UV reactive ones that are pretty nice. Its worth spending a few bucks on hose clamps tbh than having to replace water damaged components. I prefer the look of clamped hoses than unclamped, i think it neatens the end of the tube up but thats just what I think

I have 3/8" tubing pushed over 1/2" barbs on my CPU block because compression fittings wouldn't both fit as they were too wide. I don't have any sort of clamp on these and they are very snug. I'm also using XSPC tubing and it's very flexible, so that also helps.

I've heard of people running very snug tubing over barbs, I thought maybe they were doing just for pictures. After doing more research, I think I'll pass on a "new look", and just stay with my Monsoon setup.
Thanks for all the input.
