I need help with getting rid of some pop-up thing on my PC please.

Hi. I've never really had issues with pop-ups or adware or anything like that. Recently I downloaded GPU-Z and Furmark and at the same time all kinda crap installed itself on my desktop. I cleaned away everything I could. Now what's bothering me is this...

1. Almost every time I click on a link or anything on the web it opens another page and at first it says "Direct" on the tab and then loads up a web page claiming to be google. Telling me my video player is out of date and I should update it by installing a new one from them lol. It's also taken me to some other page yesterday but mostly its this google thing. I do use Chrome but I'm 99% sure this is not an official google thing.

The other thing is this "adchoices" garbage. It's adds that come up right on the webpage that I'm looking at like if I load up Newegg there will be 2 on the left and 2 on the right sides. They were showing me the new 980 card the whole time. I tried to get rid of it but I don't know how. I did something called "opt out" and now it just shows blank pop up or nothing at all but it's still there.

I don't want to reinstall windows because of this. Anyone know a free program I can use to get rid of this garbage? Thanks

Can you identify the software which is causing this problem? There are alot of 3rd party applications which can cause problems like this CNET is also in the list and the list goes on.

What you can do with the browser is, for Firefox;
Press ALT > Tools > Home Page > Restore to default
Delete any possible add-on installed by that application on your browser.

Chrome
Disable any recently installed add-on or extension.
or click on advance setting right above the horizontal scroll and reset your browser If you find it difficult to clear the mess up.

Go to Control Panel and search for the weird software, which you will find it easily, just uninstall them and their complete components. You are good to go.

Hey thanks for the reply. So this thing is just taking me to a different page every time now. It's not just that Chrome thing. The last two were "Asus computer problem help" A page all about Jennifer Anniston. I've done the control panel thing but I'll try and look again. But I have not really done the browser thing will do that now thanks. I'll let you know how it goes.

yea it's only getting worse. This is incredible I've never had a problem with this. The thing that puts up the adds seems to be called "Adchoices" and its showing me a lot of ebay stuff saying it's from ebay now. The new page is still opening randomly when I click on something. Also I could not really find anything in control panel.

I tried the reset browser it did not help either. It's actually getting worse lol. um I don't have teamviewer can I download it? My friend used to connect to my PC through something I can't remember. I think it was part of windows though. It's also doing it with internet explorer, same thing.
