I would love to be able to swap my solid state Hard drive between my home desktop and my laptop.
I picked up a cheap Lenovo X61 and wanted to know if I can use a usb to ssd converter with it. If so, how exactly does that work. Is that a no fuss sort of thing, plug and play?

If there's an OS on it / they use different chipsets / drivers etc probably NOT a good swapping the hdd. If you want a SSD buy one for it

You can't use a converter on a boot drive. The OS has to load a driver in order to use devices attached externally through a dock or converter. In other words, the drive can't load a driver to run because an OS isn't loaded yet.

You have to replace the internal drive with the SSD. In addition, make sure their are no gaps. If the laptop had a hard drive before, you are going to need to fill in the space so that the ssd doesn't bounce around.

Ah, I see. It came with a 160gb HDD, but I scored one with 3gb, all originals and warranty for $90 shipped. Wont be used for anything but documents and music playback. I might grab a 60gb ssd, was curious to see how the modded bios works for it but im not sure how to actually install that.
