Ok everyone, not too sure about this one.

Lenovo ThinkPad W530,
i7, 3720qm 2.60Ghz
16gb ram,
Quadro K2000m,
Windows 7 Pro (64bit)
500gb HD 7200rmp
Purchased 2013

6 months ago my Lenovo started acting up, it would give me vertical black lines freeze and power off. I’ve seen this before, and It’s usually a graphics driver issue that caused the GPU to lock up. However when I rebooted the laptop(multiple times) it would do the same thing 5 seconds into pressing the power button. I tried the battery removal nvram reset holding power ect… to no avail. Never could get it to boot into windows. Tried factory restore, switching out ram, but could only get 30 seconds max before it would freeze and give me the vertical al lines. So I shelved the thing for 6 months due to work, being super busy and hadn’t had time to do anything further. I finally got around to getting an RMA request over the phone to get it repaired (still under warranty). I was curious though after I hung up the phone, I booted it up for the heck of it….. and its been running now for 2 hours, with no issues. I haven’t touched the graphics driver, programs anything since 6 months ago’s original diagnostics. The last thing I did was boot into the bios for 10 seconds then it froze vertical lines and power off. This was 2 days after the initial diagnose of constant freezing 6 months ago. (so the GPU technically had time to “cool off” and or “re-solder its pins back from extreme heat and then cool down” I did not flash the bios or change a thing other than let it sit for 6 months.

Now in all my experience this all originally told me that the GPU was toast, and or the pins needed a re-flow to fix the issue because the GPU is getting so hot that I’ts de-soldering itself from the motherboard. So with all that in mind, the first hour I ran fur mark…. For an hour strait!!! No issues, there were no automatic updates or recently installed updates, no auto updates from Nvidia, no changes other than booting and getting past the windows loading screen for the first time in 6 months and running fur mark. So then I started running all my old programs browsers, apps you name it to see if there might have been a driver issue. Mind you I still have not touched any drivers, or updates. No vertical lines, no freezing, checked ram, hard drive, no windows crash report, no blue screens…….. I’m a little stumped on this one. I have a warranty box coming tomorrow still going to send it in and they may or may not find anything. Now this is ok because the warranty doesn’t expire till Feb. 2016
Sorry for the long winded post, but I’m curious if any of you have any insight to this random magical “fix”. I know this is good news and all, but I am in the I.T. field and would love to hear from you guys, as I deal with problems like this on a daily basis. Thanks for taking the time to read this; I look forward to your responses!
