I have an Asrock 970 Extreme3 r2.0 Motherboard, And an AMD FX-8320 CPU. I recently had some issues with Crashing/BSOD on Windows 8.1. I read that an outdated BIOS could be causing my problem and decided to update it. Now I get as far as the Windows 8 boot logo + wheel and then the screen remains black.

Go into the BIOS reset the settings then reconfigure. It may have set them to defaults

I loaded default settings in the BIOS menu, But it sill doesn't make it past the boot logo, it is a black screen with the "Eng" and wifi icons flashing in the corners every 10 seconds or so. For this reason I attempted to boot via my Windows 8 disk and repair my OS, I was able to get to the Repair screen however when I attempted to repair it I got "An error occurred when repairing Windows. No changes were made". Would this be a Windows issue for this reason or would my BIOS still be to blame potentially? Considering it was the reboot after the BIOS update that went wrong.

Try clearing your CMOS.

I tried to just now, it didn't seem to work. I removed the CMOS battery from the mobo for about 30 seconds. If I'm not mistaken my CMOS would be cleared from doing so?

it's best to leave it out for 5-10 minutes.

I've discovered the apparent issue, As it turns out the BIOS update reset my Boot order, Booting from my 1 tb hdd instead of my SSD with the OS I'm currently using on it. I'm guessing there is still a broken version of windows on the HDD and that's what I was seeing. However I am unable to permanently select my SSD as #1 boot option, It simply doesn't detect anything apart from the HDD and CD/DVD drive, Any help with this? I am able to manually boot from SSD now though so it's a start.

Thats exactly what resetting the BIOS / removing the battery does. It resets everything inc the bootdisk. And time. Thats why I said to reconfigure the BIOS

Enable UEFI and secureboot, if they were enabled before
