Will my i5 2400 @ 3.1ghz hold back the 970 or bottleneck it?
Im confused as some people say it will be a bottleneck and some say that no i5 processor will be a bottleneck to any graphic card that is available now, not even a titan because processors are way ahead.
So should i buy the 970 or buy a cheaper card and save for a better processor?

not at all, great CPU/GPU combination. There is ONLY a bottleneck when the CPU is throttling at 100% usage (above 90% can count also), that is when graphics cards are limited.

Are you sure it wont be a bottleneck? I have a gtx 560 now and cpu usage goes upto 75% when i play battlefield 4 on medium at 1080p. Will the 970 reduce the load on the cpu and let me play latest games on ultra @ 1080p with my i5 2400?

yes, I am sure. Your CPU is not the problem in BF4, it's your graphics card that's limiting it to medium.

There are many posts here that are saying that their i5 2400 is bottlenecking their graphics card. What can you say about all that?

Link them and I'll gladly say why. NOTE: Some users have no clue what they are talking about, bottlenecking is one of the most incorrectly used terminology you can come across on forums.

^ very very true, along with lagging.

You will always have a bottleneck somewhere, accept that. Where it is will depend on the game, if you buy too weak a gpu say a 770 then the GPU will be bottleneck, other it might be the CPU, or Memory, or your network. Get what you can afford and then when you update your CPU you can resue it and get some benefit from the upgrade. If I had a 2400, I would have no problem with buying a 970.

Hey man thanks for the help i appreciate it.
Can you explain these posts which show that the cpu is being a bottleneck?

In this post he says his i5 2400 necks at about 90% with a 780.
Will i be able to run assassins creed unity at atleast 60 fps on ultra with aa? Devs are saying that the npcs in the game put pressure on the cpu and thats why its locked at 30fps at 900p on ps4 and xbox one.
Will i be able to play all upcoming games like arkham knight, star wars battlefront etc on ultra with 60fps at 1080p? With an i5 2400and gtx 970?

you won't be able to run AC unity at 60fps, it's locked at 30fps.
As i said above there is always a bottleneck, it will change from game to game.

Ac unity is locked at 30fps even on pc? I heard that its only locked at that fps for ps4 and xbox one?

I think ubisoft are making that across the board, as its 'better' in their opinion, but I guess waiting and seeing is the order of the day. The stories are vague on the PC end of it, but for their given reason of it is 'better' in their opinion they should be at 30. There's bound to be a command line that can do something.

if it does bottleneck your GPU it'll only be a bit. The NPC AI load on the CPU might be high on AC games though.
