I want to install linux mint along with windows xp

I want to install linux mint along with windows xp on an old computer.

eMachines T3504 Intel(R)
Windows xp Home Edition Version 2002 SP2
Celeron(R) D CPU 3.20 GHz
3.20 GHz RAM

Capacity 88.7 GB with 74.8 GB free space

Thanks, I am not an expert, and any help will be appreciated. With support for xp discontinued, I am finding it difficult to get programs that actually work.

Pick a distro (I suggest Ubuntu or Mint), make sure you get the 32 bit version, download and burn to cd or usb (pendrivelinux.com has usb installers), boot to cd or usb. You will have the choice to try it without installing (do this to be sure you like it), or to install. When you install, choose the "along side of" option and it will install not only linux but grub which is the bootloader that lets you choose which os to boot.

Google dual boot linux/widows - lot's of help out there.

Play with the distro awhile before you install, especially the graphics and wireless functions, Older rigs sometimes have issues with hardware compatibility, but there are several workarounds available. The Ubuntu forums are a great source of info and will work for Mint as well since it is Ubuntu based.

Thanks Mark. I took or advice, created a usb stick and installed linux mint mate to it. It will boot up on most of my computers. I am loving linux mint so far. Thank you very much.
