I am sporting an i5-3470 (seems ancient now!) I plan to wait for the next 'Tick' cycle, that is, Cannonlake.

What kind of an increase in performance can I expect? Just curious.

Will probably upgrade my CPU, Motherboard, Graphic Card, RAM (DDR4 might become the default thing?)

current rig: i5-3470, 7870 XT, 8 gb RAM

No one knows as Cannonlake is pure speculation at this point.

Your cPU is still plenty powerful enough to max any game with a high end GPU.

That's true but someone who is a veteran in this field and knows quite a bit about CMOS tech, might have an idea what a die shrink to 10nm can possibly mean even if its a far estimate?

I am pretty happy with what I have right now, yes. Don't even get the time to game all that much with college and what-not haha.

Not really. It will mean lower TDP. That is the direction Intel is going.

I feel you with the college thing. I am in my last semester and don;t have the most time to game either.
