Hey guys, first post here,

Can i have some help please?
i am a bit new to this virtualization world, however i am planning to have a computer that can support gaming (already done), plus a VM running inside it that will allow gaming too. (another keyboard/mouse/etc, like a gaming station).

I am checking about VT-D hardware, found out this one:
CPU - Intel i7 4790k
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Now i am looking forward a Mobo z9x, for supporting 5th gen cpu in future.
Can someone suggest me a few? (some options would be great, as i may not find most of mobos where i live)
If no z9x mobo worths, i also accept suggestions of z8x mobos, and i can ignore 5th gen for a few years.

Another important question:
in my actual spec, i already have a Radeon R9 290x tri-x (no VT-D support far i know).
and I know Intel HD Graphics 4600 are not suitable for heavy gaming.

so, It will be possible to, at same time:
- Main OS: run games using my Radeon.
- Main OS: run a VM
- VM: run a game using Intel HD Graphics 4600 from "shared" CPU
?

I am also accepting suggestions for a second GPU for VT-D (if not possible the above)
Thanks in advance!
Aluck

ASUS Z97-A, GigaByte Z97 G5/7, ASUS M7 HERO (Ranger if its available in your region), ASROCK EX4/6, MSI G5/7 are all great MoBos, you can't go wrong with any of them.

Also, Yes running VM, gaming in it, and gaming at same time is possible. Both will use your dedicated GPU not iGPU, and you may want to CFX with another 290X if you have the funds to increase performance, you'd need multiple monitor (gaming and VM with game on single monitor will be too congested). You can't use both iGPU and GFX.

Yes, right now i have 2 monitor using my GPU, so the plan is one will have the Main OS and other the maximized VM screen.

hm, so i think i understand it wrong about virtualization.
Having only one R9 290x.
+ I7 4790k
+ any of mobos you mentioned

Is it possible to my VM recognize my Radeon R9 290x as its primary GPU too?
I though setting it as primary in VT-D would have to remove it from my Main.

Sad that i cant use a iGPU together, i also though the CPU being VT-Dable could make this work.

Yep, both will utilize your GPU, as their own descrete one. CPU will dedicate resources to VT-D in order to get best performance, as far as I know.

Great, thanks for your quick reply!

All these mobos you mentioned have VT-D support?
ASUS Z97-A
GigaByte Z97 G5/7
ASUS M7 HERO (Ranger if its available in your region)
ASROCK EX4/6
MSI G5/7

because far i know MSI z97 Gaming series don't have.

My bad, Asus Z97 doesn't support VT-d, ASROCK MoBos do. MSI doesn't. GB does, as far as users have said.

Great, so i will choose ASRock Z97 Extreme 6.
Is it sure to have VT-D support, correct?
