XFX 550w or 650w. They are made by Seasonic, and can usually be found at VERY good prices. Sometimes the 650w is even cheaper than the 550w, lol.

Wattage is a concern, but it is not the only concern when choosing a power supply. Amps, and most importantly BUILD QUALITY are concerns. Some low end companies flat out lie about their PSU's capabilities. What PSU do you have now? In theory, with that setup, 400 watts should take care of it, assuming its a good quality PSU.

Cheap, quick and dirty, the Corsair CX430 is a solid PSU for under 30 bucks (After mail in rebate)

The CX line of power supplies is meant for office based computers mostly, not gaming computers. It's not a good idea to run a PSU at 90+% all the time either because it will reduce the PSUs life dramatically. AMD recommend 600w for that card, but 550w is fine. http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/amd_radeon_hd_7970... Read the recommendations they give near the bottom of the page. This is also good reading for you as well hydron989 ;)

I'm aware of what the power requirements are of the system. Both AMD and Nvidia recommend higher wattages than necessary because they're figuring in for people buying low end generic PSUs. Guru 3D is entitled to their view on it as well, but notice they're using a first gen Core i7 (Bloomfield).

I've used the Corsair CX line in several builds, they have demonstrated to me that they are a solid power supply, regardless of what they're being used for.

Tom's hardware benches say under full load with a synthetic stress test, their whole test system is pulling 314 at the wall. Note that Tom's is using an i7-3960X (Sandy Bridge- which is the same Gen the OP is using) vs Guru's older and less efficient Bloomfield, further, an i7 Extreme edition has twice the TDP rating of an i3.. Also figure in realistically, unlike with a synthetic bench, you're not going to be putting your system under full load constantly.

The general rule of thumb is to figure out what your wattage consumption is going to be and factor in an additional 1/3 for overhead. As such:

I stand by what I said, the CX430 is sufficient for this application, if you can afford something better? Sure, I'm waiting for the OP to tell me what he has now, as far as recommending something pricier, I'll cross that bridge when I arrive.

Thank you so much guys. But the problem is I'm from India. And u don't get much stuff around here at reasonable rates. How about a corsair vs 650w?? Will that be good enough taking into play my other components don't consume much?? Please give in your inputs

Yes, that Corsair VS 650w would be a very nice unit for you. It is a little overkill, as you could get away with a quality 450 watt. But too much power is never a bad thing. If you can get the Corsair for a good price, I would jump on it. It is a reliable quality unit.

I would be looking at a Sesonic instead. The VS series is pretty low end.

What shops do you use in India? Give me a couple links and we'll try to find a good PSU, I know sometimes the selection is hard to get in your country.

In India, online shopping of computer accessories alone is not so reliable. Hence, we've to rely on retail stores which charge exorbitantly and some times we've no other option than paying up. SO yeah, scene's pretty fucked up :(

P.s- I live in Pune, India. If u know any good store do message .

I don't unfortunately, I know a guy on the forums from India before that I helped pick parts out online, it was difficult because the selection was limited and the prices substantially higher than other countries. Australia is another one I've found that charge high end prices for middle and low tier components.

I guess let me know what kinds of selections you have available to you, and we'll figure out the best choice from that. Proximon used to have a really nice PSU guide, let me see if I can find his link.

I don't know how up to date it is, but here is a starting point at least:

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/322966-28-list-recomm...

And another one that Proximon recommended may be more up to date...

Thank You. :)  But that still doesnt solve my problem. i have to pay approx 85$ for the antec vp 650p, if i order a good psu with a 750 watt, it costs me 90$ for the product but 120$ for shipping. i'm like WTF??

Flipkart is generally the preferred website to use in India for online components.
