r9 280x Temperatures?

i was playing battlefield 3 on ultra with my i5-4590 and msi r9 280x in a zalman z9 case i was getting temperatures of around 80-90 (88 max) degrees and my cpu was staying at around 50 - 55 degrees, are these temperatures normal?

There a little high, you may need to adjust your system fan speed settings. However they are not unreasonably high, myself I run two 280x in crossfire and neither gpu goes above 70 celcius

what fan settings would you recommend then?

I would just get a program like speed fan and adjust the fan curve until it gets down below 70 Celsius

95C, but these cards perform best <80C. They run notoriously hot.

Just manually set your fan speed to 65/70% while you game in the CCC. That's what I do. :)  I never even get to 70c in crossfire that way, and I have the same case as you. I did populate all 7 fan slots though, so that probably helps a bit as well.

You may also want to remove the cooler and replace the thermal paste on the GPU. A lot of the time the companies use too much paste and leave an absolute mess all over the GPU chip area. My MSI TF III had that much on it, it was all over the PCB as well, lol.
