So, I had this hard drive for around 3 years and for the last couple of months I've been noticing some weird stuff. YouTube videos started to stutter quite badly, 'allocating disk space' whenever downloading a new game takes a couple of minutes while back then it took two seconds, downloads being corrupted, broken image icons all over the place. And now, I heard this ticking noise, quite loud and fast but it stopped for now. So, is this my hard drive? Do I need a new one? Thanks.

My current one is Seagate Barracuda 7200 500GB.

Replace immediately! The 'clicking' sounds are sounds of death!

Save and/or transfer all your files from the bad drive as soon as possible. Do not delay!

Even if it happened once? By the way, what determines the HDD's speed and performance?

You can download and run "HDTune" as well as "CrystalDiskInfo" and check the health of the hard disk.

However, I would save data immediately on to a new HDD and then later run the tests. Don't risk valuable data. The "clicking" sounds are early warning of impending failure. It is an intermittent sound.
