My current system specs are:
Asus mobo (can't remember model, about 4 years old)
i7960
780ti
24gb ram.

I'm looking at building an entirely new system..which will have:
i7-4790k
16gb ram
ssd etc...

This is the mobo that was recommended to me
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

but after reading a couple of the reviews, with that exact same processor mobo combo, people were saying it seem really underwhelming and they thought the mobo was bottle necking it.

Now don't plan on OC anything, I just need stock. But after reading those reviews I became a little skiddish of that board. SO if I could spend another $100, and future proof my system a little more, and ensure that my mobo isn't bottlenecking things, I would like to do that..

So what would you recommend? mobo wise?

I was also looking at this mobo after reading those reviews

Thanks!

If you don't plan to OC, get the i7 4790. Without the "K". If you're not overclocking, the mobo doesn't matter as much. That mobo you linked is a very good one, The z97 sabretooth one. The mobo you looked at is for lga 2011 socket. that will work for a processor such as an i7 5690X. If your budget is that high, I suggest the Maximus Vii Hero. I have it for a few months with no problems, and the bios is amazing.

What does the "K" stand for on the processor?

And yeah, I feel dumb posting that 2nd board, I shoulda looked at it better XD

You won't be able to go with the second motherboard since it's not compatible with your CPU (socket 2011-v3 vs yours (socket 1150).
I don't exactly see how the motherboard would bottleneck a whole system since it usually has a marginally small impact on performance.
If you're looking for a motherboard, I'm hearing good things about this one : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

I build a system for my friend with it and it's running great and has a good handful of features.
"K" stands for an unlocked processor, which means you can overclock it.

Gotcha, is there any difference besides that? just incase someday in the future I do want to OC it?

4790K is unique -4GHz base clock and 4.4GHz boost clock .

4790 is 3.6GHz/4.0Ghz

Maybe I'm wrong, I didn't think boost was considered overclocking?

Either Way when I looked at it, I did was 4.0Ghz and having the option to boost it to 4.4 would be nice.

ok then get the K considering you clearly have the money to blow. You can OC it maybe later in your life when the processor becomes weaker and new ones come out in a few years to compete with them. But yeah i reccomend the vii hero
