Hey guys, recently I had a Hard Drive crash - it was devastating and I lost a lot of data.

However I had to move on. I purchased backblaze to backup my files and a new Western Digital HD and a new copy of Windows 7. Computer has been working fine for a few weeks - however I've noticed the computer getting hot, nothing too dangerous, but decided to move computer up to top of desk instead of under so it can disappate the heat more (it was very hot under the desk).

Since it's been up here and now sitting next to me, I can hear the Hard Drive CONSTANTLY running. I thought at first it was a fan (I do have a fan dying but it's not it) but it seems to be the HD.

Is it just loud? Is it normal? Should I do something to prevent?

Processor AMD FX(tm)-8120 Eight-Core Processor
Video Card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650
Memory 8.1 GB
Operating System Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Edition Service Pack 1 (build 7601), 64-bit

Backblaze is completely updated and I've turned indexing off (and it's fully indexed anyway)!

Does anyone here know how to interpret a list of running processes or a hijackthis?

I presume you buying a new copy of windows is unrelated to your hard drive failing?
You don't need a new copy if your hard drive fails...

Anyway - hard to say.. its true that a modern HDD is worked hard by a modern OS.. the OS is always doing something.. so it generally means the HDD is regularly in use..checking updates.. doing virus scans.. all the sort of stuff you don't want to be bothered with..
But I would not say "constantly".. my laptop is sitting next to me here.. not doing anything.. and the HDD activity light is only rarely blinking..
You can use the resource monitor to see what is using your HDD.. but its not that easy to interpret what going on...
But at least it could confirm if it really is constantly on. and perhaps give you some more info you could share about exactly what it is doing

Cheers
