Hey guys,

I'm planning to sell my old PC for parts soon, decided to run some tests today. Unfortunately I'm not getting any video output on monitor - graphic card, dvi-vga adapter, cable and monitor all work fine, so it must be something with motherboard. Doesn't matter which PCI-E slot I use, both produce no output whatsoever.

I don't mind chucking the motherboard away and selling other parts individually, but how can I test whether CPU, PSU and memory are ok? All fans and diodes work fine, that's the only feedback I get - even PC speaker won't produce any error codes.

What could I do in this situation? Unfortunately I don't have another platform to test the parts.

Solution
It is a DFI board, so I wouldn't doubt the fact it is proooobably dead.
You really can't tell if the other parts are good unless you have another board to try them on.

Check the jumpers on the board, try going over the board and cleaning them and reseating things.
Check for bad caps on the board as well.

Maybe try and grab a Port80 PCI debugger card and that should show a code to help with finding out what's wrong.

Yeah, I totally forgot what DFI was 'famous' for back in the day, hah. I checked all the jumpers, cleared BIOS and other things like that, but nothing helped. Today I also noticed CPU, RAM and chipset are stone cold with power left on and running for several minutes. Just like power was not being deliver to those components. I'll test PSU with my new PC to make sure it's working ok, just in case.

Motherboard diagnostic card sounds like a great idea, even if it doesn't help much it will be handy to have one.
