I've finally decided that I'm definitely going to upgrade from bulldozer to the haswell refresh. I just haven't completely decided which CPU I'm getting. I mostly play games on my computer but I also do occasional video editing and photo editing. I really want the 4790K because it's such a good processor and I won't be upgrading again for at least the next 3 to 5 years. I save $20 every month so I can keep upgrading every 3 to 5 years. The Core i5 4690K seems good too but I think I might regret it if I don't get the best CPU I can afford. My GPU is a Zotac GTX 770 2GB version. I really wish I waited for the GTX 970. Now I can't afford a GTX 970 unless I sell my GTX 770. If I step down to a Core i5 4690K I might be able to go for SLI. There are some really cheap GTX 770's on ebay.

I would recommend the i7-4790K since you mentioned occasional editing. I wouldn't jump to a SLI just yet if you will only game with a single monitor. If you were to get a GTX 970, I would strongly recommend any from Asus and Gigabyte. Other brands are just experiencing problems from customers.

If you are building this PC for gaming then i5 4690k is good enough i7 4790k will be required if you are into hardcore rendering ,animation etc.(have run maya on i5 3450 and 8 gb ram smoothly )

So spent more on the GPU (in your case SLI) and go with i5 4690k.

With you focus on high resolution gaming (1440p/4k/dual monitor), get the I5 + SLI your 770 gtx.

With focus on doing work besides gaming, rendering or just generally throw a ton of stuff open at once, go with the I7 4790k.

If you have the money then get the best CPU for your platform. The i7 4790k being around $100 more is not going to help out that much in framerate even with an SLI setup. But It is the higher binned SKU and has more Cache as well as HTT. Games do not really use Hyper-threading..yet. So yes, the i5 is the better value for a gaming PC and is going to OC fairly well. But for almost every other workload the i7 will be faster and can offer up to 30% more performance from hyper-threading. It is really up to the buyer and what kind of things you think you will be doing.... Or just plain old bragging rights.
