Hi all,

I have recently gone back to working on an older desktop, running an Intel i7 860 on an Asus P7P55D LE motherboard. I don't want to switch out any of the other parts, but I do want to increase the amount of RAM from 2x2GB (currently) to 2x4GB or ideally 4x4GB (for large sized rendering jobs).

I've spent the evening reading up on memory compatibility, but couldn't really figure out whether this configuration is even capable of safely running 16GB, and if so, which brand/frequency. Does anyone have experience and can help me out on this? The motherboard manual is not entirely clear on this.

Much appreciated!

The motherboard's manufacturer website states
Quote:
The motherboard supports DDR3 memory that features data transfer rates of 2000 (O.C.) / 1600 /1333 / 1066 MHz to meet the higher bandwidth requirements of the latest 3D graphics, multimedia, and Internet applications.

Does this mean that I can just pick any RAM config with up to 1600 MHz and it would work fine, regardless of CPU?
