Had my computer connected to a Linksys SE1500 5-port ethernet switch which was connected to a E3000 Router that is connected to cable modem, but I started having problems with losing connection to the internet for a few seconds. Web page would say didn't load, then a few seconds later it would until finally the connection would stabilize after a few minutes. Recently I couldn't connect to the internet anymore, running Windows troubleshooter said connection between modem and computer was broken. Tried to reset router and it would sometimes help, but now it got stuck in some sort of loop. The power light on the router keeps on flashing and some of the other lights for everything else keep going solid lie it's finished with reset, followed by going back to flashing like it's just been reset. Figured the router ha finally stopped working, so I went and bought a new one, a D-Link AC1200. Now I can't connect to internet through router, not detecting a network at all, but connecting directly to modem works fine. I have tried doing a full reset of both the modem and router, and copying mac address in router's setup to see if that did anything, but nothing works. The modem is an Arris TG1672G. I'd appreciate any help on the matter. Thank you.

OS: Windows 8
ISP: Time Warner Cable

Have you tried a different cable between the router and the modem?

Yes, I switched the ethernet cable with the one that came with the router, in case that was the prolem, but still nothing.

I have only used my router as an access point with Time Warner Cable's new modem/routers. can you disable the TWC radios, leave DHCP enabled on the modem, and use your router as an access point only (this turns off DHCP on the router and let's TWC's modem assign the IP addresses).

After trying several different things, and still not able to connect router to my modem, I decided to return it to the store and exchange it for a different one. The new Linksys router I got immediately worked and let me connect. So for whatever reason, the D-Link router either wasn't accepting the modem, or the modem wasn't accepting the router. Everything is working fine now, no problems. Wish I'd figured out what exactly was the problem, but thank you for the help.
