I have recently replaced a hard drive in a friend's computer, and I am trying to install an OS onto it. I have the OS .ISO file on a dvd disk. When I try to boot from it, I instantaneously get the message Non-System disk or disk error
Replace and strike any key when ready
. I have tried to do this on multiple computers, with multiple disks with the ISO file on them. How can I get the OS onto the disk? And before anyone asks, I have my boot order correct so it does try to boot from cd, hard drive, floppy, then network. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Forgot to list that I am using the Seagate Barracuda ST2000DM001

Did you burn the ISO to the DVD? Not copy it to the DVD?

Because it wont boot from it if you just copied the ISO to it. You HAVE to burn the ISO to the DVD. You cant boot from an ISO

I have tried every type of disc in my possession. I have tried dvd+r, dvd-r, and dvd rw.

The ISO is legitimate. My school offers Dreamspark accounts to all students in IT courses.

Dreamspark ISOs should work when expanded to DVD and/or USB Flash Drive. I use them all the time (I will always be a part-time student). What operating system are you trying to install to the computer? I believe Dreamspark only has server OS's on the site....

Windows 7 Virtual PC is not an OS....

Through my school extras are included. We get XP through 8.1, server OSs, and some other programs such as visual studio.

And what version of windows is it? 7? 8? 32 / 64 bit?

And does the system youre trying to install it on support UEFI/secureboot?

The Premium Dreamspark installations are only for your PC - not to be shared with anyone else...

I used a windows 7 install and used the built in tool. I drug my ISO to the disc drive (D:)  and then selected burn.

The dreamspark ISO is my friend's. He also has an account. We are trying to install Windows 7 64 bit. I am using non-uefi bios (can't remember if it's called legacy or referred to in a different way).

Yes I have tried it on 2 PCs. I have installed multiple OSs onto different hard drives with one of the computers and have never run into any issues. That's why I'm not certain what is going on with this installation.

Or try rufus http://rufus.akeo.ie/ if you've got a spare flash drive.

Make sure the drive is the flash drive. Select MBR since it doesnt support UEFI. Add the ISO then wait for it to finish. Then change the bootdisk to the flash drive. Then boot from it

I actually may have to try tomorrow. I have a rather long English paper to do. Hopefully it will work.
