I recently tried to install the windows 10 preview on my computer. I needed to dual boot, so I made a bootable usb with the .iso on it and restarted to boot from the USB stick. That's all fine, but when I got to the stage where you select the partition to install 10 on, it said something along the lines of 'you cannot install windows on a mbr drive. Convert to gpt'. How do I do that? And since I only and running one hard drive, will it erase all my data from other partitions or will it still be there afterwards? As well, for anyone out there who is using or has used windows 10, is it any good?

yes it will delete your drive and convert it over during the install process, also using 10 every day besides the keylogger they install it works great

Yep I got the same error I had a small 500 gb drive laying around so I installed 10 on it so if you have a drive laying around that would be the way to go I wasn't going to format my entire drive to give win 10 a test drive.

So since it needs a GPT partition do you need a system that supports UEFI to install it?

Or just create a GPT partiton, and it'll install? Too bad if you need UEFI, not all systems support it

When I tried to install it it told me I couldn't install it on a GPT partitioned drive. Is this because you can't dual boot it, it wants the entire drive to itself?

GPT is a newer partition standard and MBR is the older one. GPT will require you to format your whole driver its not about windows wanting the whole drive it's just the way Partition standards work

The OP said he couldn't install because his drive was MBR. What needs to happen, does Windows have to format the drive? My GPT drive wouldn't work, and his MBR doesn't. What's the solution? Not to hijack this thread...

During the windows install
Delete the Drive
Format drive or new
Then use that drive
Or
Use these commands in the Command prompt also in the install disk
diskpart
list disk
select disk <disk number>
clean
convert gpt
exit
