I'm using an HP ze4900 to learn about upgrading and building. I want to do a modest upgrade on it, but I'm not sure what the motherboard will be able to handle. I can't find any specific information about it. Also I just learned of bottlenecking. How do I figure out if my cpu and graphics card and so on will work together efficiently? I don't want to waste money buying upgraded components that don't jive w/ the others or that the motherboard can't use the full power of.

well, any modern mobo will support any gpu there is, and it will support any cpu that is the same socket (usually). is this a laptop? thats all that came up in google, and if it is a laptop, you cant really upgrade it.

Hm. Okay, so if I want to build a desktop (totally different track) how do I know which components will work the best together without wasting any power?

well, you need a well-matched cpu and gpu, with enough ram and power. do you have a budget in mind?

Probably a budget of $500 to start. With upgrading in mind for the future.
