Games frame rates are slowing on a new computer. About 2 months old now; is it possible to have over heated my CPU, but not completely so it just slows down?

what are your specs and temps?

Its possible, thermal throttling is very much a possibility. Easy way to test is to grab HWmonitor run the game until it starts slowing down (and for a little while after) then tab out and check the max temps in HWmonitor. (HWmonitor records min, max and current temps if you have another preferred program you can use that if you like)

CPU- AMD Fx 8350 (with stock cpu fan)
GPU- EVGA GTX 770
RAM- 8g Ripjaws 1866
PSU-700 watt corsair
Mother board- Asus M5A97 R2.0

I am using OCCT. At rest it is about 35 degrees C and when running BF4 can get up to i think 65-70 degrees C? I play LOL also; I used to run it at 200-350 frames easily at max settings, now it usually sits at 120 then drops to about 80 when the load gets bigger.

are those the cpu temps? if so, what are the gpu temps

Sorry, yes they are CPU temps; I do not know how to check GPU temps? Also shouldn't the GPU be able to handle BF4 easily?

it should yes, but it may be overheating.

Is there a program that i can use to check CPU or GPU health? (too see if it is damaged in any way)

eh, you can run a cpu and gpu stress test (prime95 and furmark)

It will shutdown before any damage occurs (unless it was faulty to begin with)

IIRC AMD chips don't like to get above 60c - 63c. You can check if its thermal throttling by starting up OCCT then grabbing a copy of CPU-Z and checking the clock speeds / multiplier in that.

It may be the Graphics card. EVGA 700 series, from my experience, use more power to the GPU. When the GPU hit's that 100 or 106% Limit it will downclock. GPU Boost 2.0 could be a bit better in those limits or targets so the game does not feel so jittery. Even at 80FPS or X fps. Voltage limits do not seem to affect performance in frame time. Same with GPU usage. Though Power and thermal it will ramp down.

So I did some research and I am going to pick up a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO CPU fan. Then before I install it I think i will stress my CPU with the Prime 95 software and compare the results when I install the EVO. So, hopefully that will take care my heat issue, and any jitters that come with the overheating. I will post results when I get the fan; however, that might be a while. xD Thanks guys! I really appreciate all of your help to solve my issue!
