So I bought an R9 270 MSI Gaming edition card and put it into my system.
FX 6300
2x4gb ram
ASUS Micro Motherboard
Aftermarket CPU Cooler
5 Case fans .

I asked if a 500w Evga 80 plus psu would be enough and many people told me to give it a go. I tried it out and everything seemed fine but my computer randomly shut off when idle. I don't know if I accidentally bumped into the cord but I feel like something is not right.
The total power of everything should equal below 400W but I may have done the math wrong. Is it my PSU or am I overeacting? So far nothing has turned off since I rebooted it and my CPU temps are normal..

That EVGA 500 watt PSU is enough for your specs.

You should be fine.

Use speccy to check the temps and performance of all your components. If your PSU is overheating, it won't turn back on for at least 30 minutes after it shuts off. Maybe you have settings on your computer that shut it off after a certain time idling. You can also double check how much wattage you need on a wattage calculator http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.js...

I was having this problem recently and fixed it. May I ask what case you're using? Also do you know if this case has an internal fan controller or are your fans hooked up to your motherboard?

Good afternoon,

The 500 watt power supply is enough to handle your hardware. From what you are experiencing it is usually related to two things. The first is a component overheating and the second is power. I would recommend using a software tool and making sure your video card and CPU are within thermal specification. The best test to help isolate or rule out the power supply would be to test with a spare.

So far it only happened once so I may have just bumped it. If it happens again I will check out my PSU. My cpu is under 25 Celsius idle .

My fans are hooked up by molex to fan connector I bought on amazon so they are all running 100% at all times.

My problem was that the molex wire had melted that attcjed to my fan controller causing the PC to give a brief flash on the power LED then turn off. Just make sure there are no burning wires, which can be detected by a bumpy look to the wire sleeving.
