I built a computer in the last few months and I noticed that my Western digital 2 tb drive has been making a static like noise when I use the computer. It started about a week ago and I haven't noticed any loss in speed or data. Is my hard drive about to fail? If not, how can I fix the noise if fixable at all?

Hi there mrad328,

I would advise you to run the extended test of the DLG tool that digitaldoc proposed. If the drive fails the test, you can contact the WD's Support and eventually RMA it.
As your PC is recently built, you can just make sure the HDD is tightly fastened. You can also try re seating it or switching cables.

WD's Support: http://support.wdc.com/contact/index.asp?lang=en
RMA: http://support.wdc.com/warranty/

Hope this will help,
