Hello all, I'm helping a buddy with their build and they're going for a FX 6300 or a FX 8320, they're unsure at this point. I would be willing to bet we will be picking the FX 8320.

At this point, for the FX 6300 board I'm suggesting this board http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
For the FX 8320,

Any other thoughts?

4th person to say that, so I'll drop Msi off my list.

Gigabyte 970A-UD3P (8+2 phase power design)

MSI 970 Gaming AM3+

Asus M5497 R2.0/EVO.

Those are your best options for the price.

Mmk, so the build will use the FX 6300, and it will be overclocked.
I've come down to a few options:
Asus 970 r2.0
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
Gigabyte 970 d3p
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
Or for 990fx, but the extra cost for the 990fx is probably useless in this case.
Asrock fatality 990fx
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
Or the loved Gigabyte 990fx ud3

Gigabyte 990FX UD3 <- Would be my choice. Great for upgrading to the other FX's later on.

I do have another question before I select your choice as best answer, would a like 30$ asus xonar sound card be substantially better than something like the Asrock's enhanced onboard audio stuff? The gigabyte uses an older realtek alc889 vs. the ASrock which uses the well from what I've heard not bad realtek alc 1150.

If the xonar card wouldn't be a whole lot better than the 1150 then I'll just have them get the ASrock board, since it has a better audio output than the gigabyte, and my buddy uses audio technica ATH m50x's for his headphones. So good sound is a must.

I'd say yes to that, The onboard audio isn't anything special, though if your going to invest $30 into a sound card, it is better then the onboard. I would not say substantially, but it is better.
