Everyone's likely to think I'm off my rocker, but here goes anyway.....

One of my clients told me about something that happened a couple days ago to her computer.
(Dell Dimension 3000, running XP Home.)
She turned it on in the morning, went to get coffee, came back and saw a blue screen, with DELL in large block letters, and "Welcome to Windows 8"
She clicked the mouse once, and was apparently running Windows 8.
As she fished around with the tiles and screens, she was able to navigate to her files, find her desktop icons, etc.....everything seemed to be running, but it wasn't xp anymore.
As she dug around more, she said she found a screen with "small white print", and in that list she noticed "windows xp" listed. She clicked on it, and suddenly her computer returned to normal.
Running XP again, like nothing ever happened.

Now, I spent a couple hours digging around in the hard drive, the registry, ran a couple malware scans - found nothing that shouldn't be there. She hardly goes anywhere online, there are two free game sites that she's not had any trouble with before (I've been servicing her computer for more than a year now).

I'm stumped as to where this came from or what it was.

Anyone else have anything like this?

Any thoughts?

Someone is playing a joke on someone - her or you.

LOL! Well, I trust that she's not playing a joke on me - she paid me to come investigate!

I was wondering if it was a website running an emulator, or something along those lines.....
