Internet Issues, don't know what else to do.

Hi,

Essentially, the problem is that when I boot up my PC I'm met with inconsistent internet for a period of times. What I mean by inconsistent is that sometimes it happily loads browsers and applications that require internet connection with ease. However, at the same time it could potentially not load other applications or other browser tabs. Keeping in mind that it isn't a specific web page or application that doesn't load immediately, it's completely random. This process goes on from anywhere from 2- 20 minutes.

After the period of time has elapsed, using browsers and such becomes doable, however if I close all browsers and attempt to open it again, same thing happens. Also, this suddenly started happening a few months ago. Prior to that I never had an issue with internet. In terms of what I've done to fix it (by no means am I tech-savvy, so probably not a great deal) is as follows:

- I have a number of other computers in my household- the internet works fine on those whilst it doesn't work on mine.
- I've formatted my drives
- Reinstalled OS (Windows 7)
- Tried different Ethernet cables
- Bought a new Network Adapter
- Bought a Wireless Adapter

I'm really at a loss of what to do from here on in- and it's fairly frustrating to deal with this issue on a daily basis.

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated!

Hi, I would like to help, could you please answer these questions? When your computer is on I want you to go to your status of your internet connection, so left click network icon next to clock, right click connection then left click status, If your not doing anything on your computer, that receievd status number shouldn't increase more then 1000(bytes) per second. If it is, well we have started to find the problem, you have resources on your local machine chewing up the internet an bandwidth. So now you need to find out which processes are doing it. I would write an app in VBScript accessing the Windows Instruments. Or go to your task manager, it will tell you. The best way to detect which processes should be there an which shouldn't is by spotting the difference between your fresh installation offline. Then you know what is truly Microsoft. Of course you will find processes that you will defendetly need, so becareful what you crash, but this is how you find out if you've been hacked or you a trojen, virus or rat or whateva. In my world it's a client built in C or C# that connects back to the hackers server which is just a socket listening for the client.

I am on prepaid internet, I play cod online, my computers never ever ever require 1byte of internet unless I request it by opening internet explorer, as soon as I close internet explorer, my internet status meter STOPS. I hope this helps a little, please ask questions if you want

Thanks for the replies.

i7Baby, when I run a speedtest I consistently achieve around 30 Mbps, which is in check with my plan. When my internet is misbehaving I've tried to load speedtest a few times (speedtest.net), and it either takes a long time to load all of the content (selecting best server, sending a ping and all that) or it doesn't load it at all.

C_hiesler, I'm unable to right click the connection and view the status (no option appears when I right click), so I'm not able to verify whether it's more or less than 1000 bps. I do have programs that start-up when I log in (namely Steam, Origin and Skype), however disabling them from starting on boot up doesn't seem to affect the problem.

I've also since discovered that the internet node (or whatever you'd like to call it) is situated upstairs, and apparently it's connected with a modem down here through the electrical cabling. I'm not sure if that's normal or obscure, but could that be causing the issue?

Update: I've since taken the PC to the supplier, under warranty. They fixed it on spot by going to the device manager > deleting the pre-existing network adapter > finding new hardware and it simply worked (Note that before they went through this process, the internet was playing up as it usually does). With much relief after having finally fixed the problem I took it home and the issue arose once again. After following the steps they used (I had them on the phone), the issue still persisted. They recommended I bring it back in, but I wanted to see if this information was of any use to solving the issue with your help, first.

Also, I'm having to use the wirless adapter to connect to the net, because after deleting the pre-existing network adapter, the newly found one was unable to connect at all. Is this information of any use?

Any further suggestions? My only other option would be to take it into the shop, which reportedly'll take between 2 and 3 weeks, something that I'd rather avoid. Cheers.
