Used GPU buy or not?

Hello everyone,

I am currently looking for an upgrade of my GPU and I found that I can get a really good deal with secondhand GPU's.

There is a question how can you find whether a card has been used for mining or not?

I know that video cards that were used for mining are not eligible for warranty but how would companies know whether it was or wasn't used for mining?

And would you buy a used GPU and if "yes" than how would you check it before buying?

As far as I know, there's no way anyone can tell. I've even heard of loads of AMD cards being returned as faulty and being repaired under warranty after being used for mining. I personally wouldn't buy used, even a used Nvidia card.

I'll never buy used again, I did once when the 9700Pro was the beast card, but the card I got used was clearly abused and wouldn't work properly and I had to take a loss on it and ended up buying a brand new one.

I am so confused! Some people say it's ok some say that they would not ever buy a secondhand GPU.

Pros of buying a used card:

Often you can get a bargain, higher performance card at a lower price

Cons:

Seller could be selling a faulty card

I have bought used cards, with no issues in the past, I wouldnt hesitate to do it again. (just use something like ebay/paypal where you have protection if it is faulty).

This really comes down to what you're willing to spend.

I personally wouldn't buy a used one. Why not talk to the seller? Find out why they're selling it. What type of gaming they do?

It is up to you to decide if you believe them or not. Look for online auctions that accept returns... This might be the best way to find out if you received something that actually works.

I recently sold mine and specifically wrote 'no returns', however it was 100% functioning.

Pros:
Cheaper
Better card for less

Cons:
No warranty
You don't know who you're buying from
You don't know how it was used
You can't be sure it is 100% working before buying

Every been a casino? Bought a scratch card?

Exactly the same thing, could be a huge money save or a money sink. It really is a gamble.

My advice is don't spend what you can't lose.
