Please bear with me, I'm computer lingo challenged.

I have a Radeon 5200 video card that's been acting squirrelly for the last few years.
At times the screen goes totally black after a brief flash of lines, can still hear sound. So I shut the computer down then restart, been doing that on and off for the last couple of years.
Changed out the motherboard about 9 months ago.
Just ordered a Sapphire Radeon R7 265 Graphics Card, should get that by Friday.

A few days ago while playing an online game (been playing on and off for the last month & a half) all of a sudden internet dropped, I 'd checked my modem (3+ years old Motorola SB6120 DOCSIS 3.0 eXtreme) and all lights were in the green, never blinked orange (green good orange bad) even when internet dropped, I even unplugged it and then plugged it back in again, still blinked green.

I figured it was on Comcast's end, so I called them. While waiting 30 + minutes for a live person, of course internet connects again. I still had them check on their end to see if there was any work being done in my area but the operator said no (which when it comes to Comcast doesn't mean diddly). It's been hitting a 100 degrees on and off for the last 4 months, so I requested a tech come out and check the box on telephone/power pole to make sure that's okay.

It's dropped a couple of times when watching Hulu (not as much though) but since this past Saturday (Oct 4,2014) ever time I've gotten into the game, I either get dropped from the internet or major can't move character lag. Checked the game site, all good there.

I've checked (unconnected, reconnected) all the lines starting from outside the house all the way to the modem and then to my computer (don't use a router), everything looks good.

So my question is three fold
Can a bad video card cause you to lose internet?
Can a modem be bad but still some what function, I was told that they either work or don't.
Does this sound like it's more than likely Comcast?

Thanks for any info that might help.

No, a video card can't cause internet issues.

Yes a modem can semi-work but crash or drop connectivity at times.

It may be Comcast but maybe the modem if that was not replaced.

You should also get a router, it helps with security since you are not directly connecting the computer to the internet that way.

Thank you for the reply.
I bought a new modem yesterday (motorola sb6121) but didn't open/hook it up yet.
When I get home I'll try it.

Thanks!
It worked, no more drops, plus downloading way faster.
Just waiting to swap out video cards now.
