Im getting a htc m8 in about a week and im looking at sd card memory options. It just occured to me that there might be a probability that the sd port on the card has a mb/s ceiling. Im looking at getting a sandisk 64gb 80mb/s sd card. Im mostly going to use it for storing playstation 1 emulations and music, do you think those activities justify a larger transfer rate? Or if the phone can even handle those transfer rates in the first place?

you should be fine with a class 6 or mabe even the 10, HTC mentions a class 2 is okay... but i'd just go with a 6 for the bandwidth option, especially if you find a decent deal.. https://www.sdcard.org/developers/overview/speed_class/

so would something like this be overkill. because if it is id rather just spend some of that money towards a lower class 128 gb card.

honestly, unless you're doing a ton of HD video and such, you should be fine with even a class 6, not sure if they come in that cap since that large is aimed at video:

I actually have a PNY 64gig usb drive i use on a daily basis.. typically for SD cards i use sandisk though because they're usually the cheapest in stores at the time. I have about a 40/40/20 split of pny/sandisk/random cards, and never had any fail other than getting crushed.
