Hey guys,
So i am new when it comes to building a pc. i have been doing a lot of research and was getting stuck when it came to trying to find a good motherboard and cpu. there are so many out there and so many mixed reviews that im not really sure what i should get; i'm looking for some suggestions. Here's what i want to achieve out of my build:
1. i want to be able to play some of the latest games. however, i am not a hardcore gamer. (i play some wow, LoL, Hon, as well as some other steam games; games like bioshock etc (within that realm).
2. i use photoshop and lightroom to edit pictures, not sure that accounts for anything but im just putting it out there. its nothing professional, simply a hobby.
3. all the basic uses like internet, watching videos, downloading etc.

I wanted to use an ssd in addition to an hdd since i read it is better to have the OS on the ssd while everything else be saved to the hdd. any advice on that would be good too.

As for graphics card, i was thinking of the gtx 750Ti. it may be a lot for my mentioned gaming but i want it to be there in case i decide later on to play a graphics heavy game.

some notes...i prefer regular ATX mobos unless you can convince me a microATX would be the same or better (i plan to install a couple secondary HDDs as well as a optical drive). i dont know much about overclocking so it's not my main focus but in the future, if i do decide to look up how to do it, i would like the mobo/cpu to handle it, as well as the gpu.

any help would be greatly appreciated, again my budget is ~$650-$750 but however close you can get to the lower budget is always better while still maintaining a good system performance.

thanks all!

Hi, I would advice for a budget such as yours CPU wise Either an I5 46790K/70k or an FX 8350 for gaming i would chose the Intel simply due to its single core performance, but for your hobby (photoshop) i would advice the fx 8350 due to its 8 core 4Ghz assets, and for gpu The 750ti is great, low power and good performance and will even play demanding games like battlfield 4 on high at around 50-60fps, motherboard wise just hit up amazon and just get any mobo that supports your cpu as you are not OC'ing it wont matter too much, basically the more expensive the better quality easy :)

That CPU looks weak, drop the ssd or gpu to R9 270 which is a bit better then 750ti and get a i5 4670k much better or fx 6300/8350

The Athlon 860K is enough for budget gaming. The 760K was enough for the R7 265. This one can handle the R9 270 and 270X.

The i5-4670K is overkill, not worth it if the GPU is only R9 270. i5s are only for R9 280 and higher (AMD and nVidia). FX CPUs are too old.

He said he wanted a SSD.

Oh i missed the SSD bit, also i know the FX's are old but they hold their ground http://gyazo.com/37be8f282b0e94bcd9755ab082bb14a5 beating out the i5 4670k, also Photoshop etc does require a good CPU. But his oppinion

I know the FX still perform well, the same way the Sandy Bridge Core i CPUs do it. But I always suggest the CURRENT best value platform depending on the needs.

Definitively a good CPU is needed, he said that he's doing it as a hobby, nothing pro.

Even when I'm not a fan of OC, if he adds a good cooler to the 860K he can reduce the bottleneck if he encounter any.

Check out http://www.logicalincrements.com/. They have a great scale for modern PC builds at varying price ranges.

Awesome, but a bit outdated.

I would reccomend the following:

Case: GIGABYTE GZ-F5HEB $25
CPU: i5 processor $200
graphics card: evga gtx 750ti $140
Motherboard: MSI Z97-G45 Gaming LGA 1150 $140
Power Supply: corsair 500w PSU $50
Memory: gksill 8gb ddr3 memory kit $80
harddrive: western digital 1tb $60

All of these part come to $695 on newegg.com. At best, you may go about $5-$10 over what's left in your budget for shipping. Built a budget gaming rig for someone using most of these same parts, and the customer plays Battlefield 4 on ultra settings with no lag whatsoever.

Budget gaming builds are usually AMD's territory.

True, And I could have gone that route for a lower price, but my client was dead set on having an i5 qaud core processor, so I had to adjust all my reccomendations to work around that chipset. This poster didnt specify, so I went the intel route here.
