I'm wondering the best route to go as far as an operating system for these components. Parts are:

Motherboard: Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+
RAM: 3GB DDR2 667
Graphics: GeForce 9600 GT

Based on the motherboard: http://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/M2N32SLI_DeluxeWireless_Edition/ it looks like the drivers were last released for windows Vista. I know vista wasn't the best received OS, but will it run smoother with all the correct Vista drivers installed?

Any help would be awesome. Thanks!

From the link I saw asus also post the drivers for win7 (32bit or 64bit ). If you use the vista, yes, you can download and install the drivers for vista. Here is Windows lifecycle fact sheet so make sure you upgrade the OS before they end the support. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/lifecycle

Thanks! That's definitely good to know.

I ended up just installing windows 7. Even though ASUS only had limited drivers for 7 on their support page. From the windows 7 drop down, there were only BIOS files, a couple software utilities and a manual. I went to the Vista 64-bit drop down and grabbed some of the drivers from there. I was able to get the chipset and audio drivers to install with no problem. I will be trying the rest later.
