I came home today to my computer being shut off which I found weird since I leave it on 24/7.
The power button would not turn the pc on so I opened it up and pressed the power button on the motherboard.
When I did that a bunch of sparks flew out of one of the components on the back of the card.
It seems to be functioning fine and the computer boots from the power button now also but the cause of the issue is worrying me.

A gpu shouldn't prevent my power button from working so I wonder if my motherboard is faulty and caused the spark in my gpu due to overvoltage.

any input?

99% sure that is the power supply.

What brand / model is it?

Do you have another PSU to test the system?

I'd guess that the PSU is faulty. It could potentially destroy all other components in the system, if it hasn't already.

I don't think a faulty system board would produce sparks...

Crap. I don't have another psu to test. So essentially I'm jeopardizing my pc by having it on right now?

Definitely. Sparks = bad!

What are your system specs. I can try to help recommend a decent PSU for you.

Sorry, had to switch to my crappy laptop :(
Do I have to worry about my gpu? There was a lot of sparks coming out of a tiny component, I'm surprised my gpu still works after that.
My specs are 780 sli (one of them isn't in the pc atm) 4770k 16gb ram.

I like the Corsair brand. Good quality PSU for decent price. Two below will be okay for most people.

$35 (after rebate and code listed on page)
Corsair CX600

$90 (after rebate and code listed on page)
Corsair HX750

I'd go with EVGA's B2 600W or for 750W, EVGA's 750W G2. Both are made by Super Flower, the best in the business. Neither for 780 SLI, though.

An EVGA G2 1000W would be great for SLI 780's.

First thing I'd worry about is the PSU.

Once you get one you can trust, then try the GPUs one at a time. If they both seem OKAY, then try to SLI again.

I wouldn't power on the PC w/ that PSU.

850w looks pretty good for you, but you should be just fine on 750.

Check out some 850w PSUs.
Corsair, EVGA, and Silverstone are good brands that I know of.

I contacted kingwin and they said my psu has surge protection and it would prevent the computer from receiving power if there were any abnormalities.
He said I can rma the psu but he insists that its the gpu that is the problem and that most modern components have fail safes that prevent the computer from turning on if there is a problem, but when I pressed the internal power switch it forced the computer on anyway.

Too bad Nvidia doesn't have phone support, hopefully they answer emails in a timely manner.

I never heard of a GPU causing sparks but I guess King win support knows their products better than I do!

Personally I would test everything individually bit it is hard to do that with a PSU.
