Is this a CPU overheating problem?

The computer in question is my parent's computer, which I built for them a little over a month ago.

Computer Specs
Case: SilverStone Temjin Series TJ08-E (power supply is top mounted, with fan facing up & motherboard is upside down)
Power Supply: Corsair CS450M (450W)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-B85M-D3H
CPU: Intel i5-4690 (not overclocked, using integrated graphics)
RAM: G.Skill Value Series 8GB (2 x 4GB)
SSD: Crucial MX100 256GB
Operating System: Windows 8.1
Others: ASUS DVD Burner, Rosewill 40-in-1 Internal Card Reader, a Netgear USB Wi-Fi antenna, Logitech mouse and speakers, Rosewill keyboard.

I was called in a panic at 2am by my mom, who claimed that her computer made a short, loud buzzing/whirring noise, went blue, then rebooted to a "select proper boot device" black screen. I instructed her to turn the computer off until I got there. The only time I’ve had a BSOD in the past was when I had graphics card or CPU overheat, so that’s what I was assuming. My mom was apparently playing a JAVA point and click game when it happened. I opened the case, blew out some dust off the fans using a compressed air canister, and then started the computer up. The CPU fan was making a slightly louder noise than the other three in the case, which could be because it’s the smallest (the front ~240mm is always off, the 120mm Corsair fan mounted as an exhaust fan is whisper quiet, and the 120mm Corsair power supply fan was also whisper quiet). When I checked the temperatures, and ran a BurnInTest, it passed everything and the CPU reached a max temperature of 62C during a 30 minute span with all fans on, including the front fan. It idles around 30C while on Chrome browsing, with just the exhaust and CPU fans. (All temps measured with RealTemp) This all happened a few days ago, and it is still running fine and hasn't happened a second time (knock on wood), but my folks haven't been using it since because they're afraid to that they'll break it.

TL;DR – The computer made a loud buzzing/whirring noise, flashed a BSOD, and restarted to a “Select Proper Boot Device” screen. Started fine later with no problems since, but hasn't been used.

I was just wondering what the community would do in my situation?

They are using the stock cooling on the CPU, and I was considering changing that to an aftermarket cooling solution to prevent this happening again. Am I right in thinking it was because the CPU overheated or could it be something else in the system that caused this?

[The environment they keep the computer in is extremely dusty (my mom has pet birds that dust in a dust bowl a lot) and I've scolded them about it, but they haven't moved it or found another spot for it. I make sure to use compressed air to clean it out whenever I visit.]

Update the motherboard bios by downloading the new bios file to a usb stick and use gigabyte's flash method in the bios itself to load the new one. (I believe instructions are available on their website as well as their youtube channel. Same goes for the SSD really. Download the firmware updater from their website and update the firmware.

Let's hope this works. Had I similar problem with similar mobo and ssd configuration.
