I just bought a B85S3+ Biostar, by far i have great performance from everything except one thing.. the temperature is crazy and its not even stable, it fluctuates randomly. First the temp in Bios is ~47*C AT BOOT!! I applied Arctic Silver ceramique on it, and put the fan on.( I Tried reapplying it too, both tries in a 'pea' like drop'. The temperature was not this high on my previous Asus Motherboard. And second, the temperature fluctuates like crazy. The temp shows 40*C at idle then I open Minecraft and it goes to 70*C. As soon as i close it it goes down again. I use realtemp to see this. I have a GPU to decrease load off the cpu too.

Question is is this a Motherboard Problem or an actual heat problem.

Thanks

The best diagnosis is to refit your CPU cooler.

We can assume it's a cooling problem until proven otherwise.

Artic Silver Thermal Compound is ideal for acting as a conductor between CPU Cooler and CPU. You should apply a drop about 2/3 the circumference of a penny on the center of the CPU.

Some thermal compounds are more liquid. They can be 'painted/ on to the CPU and should cover the entire heatspreader of the CPU..

Lastly, ensure the CPU cooler is firmly attached to the CPU. If one of the attachment screws is looser than the others you'll have cooling problems.

CPU should be somewhere between 28°C-38°C at boot.
