I have a TP-LINK TL-MR3420 wifi router. I used it with a boardband fiber optice line. Now I have shifted into a new location. In there only ADSL boardband connection is available. It needs a telephone line.I have it also. But the information i want to know
1.Can I use my router with a ADSL modem?
2.If I can, then do I have to configure the router or only the ADSL modem throuh my laptop?

If anyone can give me this information, I will be so much thankful.

Solution
It has a normal ethenet wan port you would hook that to the dsl modem. They are selling this router as a broadband router but it is a normal wireless router that has the extra broadband features. A large number of tplink routers support wireless broadband modems, for some reason they sell this one for that purpose but it works just like any other router.

There is a screen you can tell it if you want to use the wan port or the 3g/4g modem as the internet. Just set it to use the wan.
Yes you need a adsl modem device. These are kinda rare most are modem/router combo units. You need to find a device that lets you put it in bridge mode. You would then attach your tplink router to the modem and run PPPoE in most cases. Many time you need a userid and password.

Thanks again for your reply bill001g,
Now can you please tell me how to set up a ADSL modem with this router for the first time(BUT I HAVE USED THIS ROUTER BEFORE WITH A OPTICAL FIBER MODEM) .Because my Internet Service Provider will not set up anything but they will only activate Internet Service on my phoneline and give me a User ID & Password .So I have to do the whole thing. So please reply.
My ADSL MODEM MODEL:Huawei SmartAX MT882a (http://www.clickbd.com/bangladesh/291123-huawei-smartax-mt882a-adsl-modem.html)

That device is a router actually. You can make it into a modem only by setting it to bridge mode. You would then do your settings for PPPoE and the userid and password in you other router.

It would likely be easier to run the huawei as a router and then use your tplink to just do the wireless as a AP. You would set the IP on the tplink 192.168.1.250 and turn off the DHCP. You would then plug the LAN port of the tplink into the Huawei.

You should always search youtube for help too. There seems to be videos on everything. There are multiple on how to set up the huawei....I did not look to see if there are any to set it as bridge mode but it is obvious on the screens

thanks bill0019,
you helped me a lot by giving those answers.
So you are saying that if I change the mode of the modem to bridge mode then I can connect my router though the WAN port to the LAN port of the modem & from the LAN port of my router I can connect my pc/laptop you also said, the huawei device is a router, then how come my Internet Service Provider says that its a modem.WHY?
U can see this:http://www.bcube.net.bd/technology.html
Thanks again.
